What is the drainage funnel? I'm going to break it down in this blog! Take a look at this visual…and let’s get started!
Addressing and opening up your detox drainage funnel should be at the top of your list, especially if you’re struggling with chronic issues or are planning to do a detox or parasite protocol in the near future. I wanted to create a comprehensive blog that explains each layer of the drainage funnel, so you understand just how important it is!
When you’re trying to address your personal root causes, it’s essential that your detox drainage pathways (funnel) are open and will allow the elimination of toxins from the body.
Drainage is foundational, so if you, for example, become constipated or have trouble sweating, it’s important to fix these things before continuing on with any other protocol!
If the bottom of the drainage funnel is blocked, nothing above that blockage can drain. That means toxins are getting backed up and re-circulating in your body, making you feel many common detox symptoms.
When all areas of this drainage funnel work properly, you will experience fewer detox symptoms and your body will thank you. Now let’s learn HOW to open up detox pathways one step at a time.

Level 1 of the Drainage Funnel: Colon
The colon is at the bottom of the funnel, and the most important. It’s VERY important to approach each level of the funnel in order so things don’t back up more.
How often are you pooping? You should have 1-3 healthy bowel movements every day.
If you aren't having 1-3 healthy bowel movements per day, there are likely underlying issues that need to be addressed. In the meantime, here are tips for getting things moving:
Move. Your. Body. Daily movement and exercise can keep the bowels flowing. Try something gentle even if you don’t feel like you can move. At my sickest, pedaling on an exercise bike was instrumental in helping me to feel better.
Drink warm water with lemon and a pinch of sea salt(I love Redmond Salt) first thing in the morning to stimulate muscle movement in the gastrointestinal tract.
Consider taking a supplement to help move your bowels. I have had great success with these:
Level 2 of the drainage funnel: LIVER and BILE DUCTS
The liver and gut are directly connected, so having a healthy liver will help your gut, and vice versa. Once your bowels start moving, your liver will be able to function better.
Our liver is involved in over 500 vital functions. It’s incredibly important for helping your body filter and remove toxins, but we’re being exposed to WAY more toxins than our livers were made for, and they are under a LOT of stress. We need to support our liver on a daily basis, and here are a few ways to do that and make sure level 2 of the drainage funnel is happy:
Drink warm lemon water with a pinch of sea salt in the morning. This not only works for the bowels but the liver too!
Drink Dandelion or Milk Thistle tea to open things up and support the liver. This is not needed during the detox.
Try CellCore’s supplementTUDCA. This is probably the most powerful supplement for liver support and opening the bile ducts. I take it every day!
Perform a coffee enema. They provide many health benefits and are less scary than they sound!
Liver 3 of the drainage funnel: LYMPH
This is the simplest system to open up and the most underrated, in my opinion. The lymphatic system carries cellular debris and waste out of the body and is similar to the circulatory system in that it has vessels but does not have its own pump. For this reason, WE have to move our lymph. We need to move our bodies. Period.
Remember that stagnation allows toxic byproducts to build up, and this can brew dis-ease. Lymph fluid surrounds the organs, so we want this fluid to be as free of toxins as possible. My favorite ways to move lymph are:
Exercise - especially rebounding (bouncing slowly on a trampoline)
Self-massage - there are countless free videos on this online
The skin is our largest detox organ, and we can use this to our advantage and lessen the toxic burden on the body by sweating! Sweating is important for detoxification and keeps your rain barrel from filling up! There are SOO many benefits to daily sweating! I recommend investing in an infrared sauna. It’s been one of the most impactful and beneficial tools I’ve used 3-5 times a week for 15 years. You can read more about infrared saunas here.
If you struggle to sweat, travel up the drainage funnel and address your LYMPH first! Dry brushing, massage, using a shake plate, or exercising before jumping in your sauna can work wonders to open things up!
You may also be dehydrated. Even if you’re drinking enough, if you’re lacking minerals, you’re cells may not be holding enough water to sweat out.
Also, note that not all sweat is created equal. For instance, sweat from exercise pulls out different toxins than sweat from a sauna session. Infrared saunas also pull out more toxins than a standard sauna. See my blog about the benefits of using an infrared sauna here. Healthy options to induce sweating include:
Take a bath - Add Epsom salt to a warm bath to calm your nervous system and draw out toxins. Relaxing essential oils such as lavender can enhance bath time.
Infrared sauna - Sauna sessions are a must for me and my favorite healthy habit. I LOVE my Therasage Infrared Sauna because of its low EMF rating, red light therapy, and grounding benefits. The healing benefits of infrared saunas could take up this entire blog, so I wrote one to cover everything sauna related! You can read the blog - benefits of using an infrared sauna to learn not just WHY you should sauna, but how to use it and much more!
Standard sauna - A standard sauna may not be as beneficial as an infrared sauna, but I think ANY sweating is better than NO sweating. Note that a standard sauna has higher heat, so you cannot stay in it as long. It can also trigger headaches as heat rises, and when your head is exposed to such high heat, this can increase blood pressure.
Level 5 of the drainage funnel: CELLS
It’s easy to forget about the smallest and last level of the drainage funnel, but cells literally make up the entire body and are the absolute root of everything. Our cells fuel all bodily processes and provide energy and molecules necessary for growth, repair, and function.
Cellular detoxification is crucial for eliminating toxins and harmful waste products and preventing their accumulation to prevent potential damage. My tips for supporting cellular health include:
Maintaining proper voltage: Voltage is the electrical nature of the body. Dr. Jerry Tennant, the author of Healing is Voltage, explains how every cell, tissue, and organ in the body operates at a specific voltage, and disruptions in these electrical signals can lead to health problems. Low voltage levels can substantially impact health and the ability to survive. There are voltage ‘givers’ and voltage ‘stealers’; you can learn all about each here by downloading my Voltage Ebook and checklist.
PEMF therapy, or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field, can improve cellular health significantly. It provides voltage to the body, but also is powerful for cellular detox and countless other things. It is proven that if our cells have enough electrical charge, the body can heal itself. PEMF therapy provides this electrical charge! I used a Bemer mat for years and now love the TheraPro mat by Therasage.Use code HLTHCAVE for a discount.
Avoiding EMFs - EMFs are unavoidable in our modern world, and cause DNA and cellular damage. Symptoms can arise when exposed to EMFs constantly. This can be avoided by practicing some simple habits and investing in EMF-mitigating devices.
Sauna - Are you surprised that I am mentioning my sauna again? ;) Sweating also helps with cellular detox and optimizes cellular metabolism.
Phew! I know that was a lot, but I hope I connected some dots for you and inspired you to work on opening up your drainage pathways. This alone can help you to feel SO much better. Follow this up with a detox and a parasite protocol, and you are unstoppable!
